The Harris County Commissioners recently approved continuing negotiations with Figure Four Partners as they look to create a detention area in south Montgomery County for flood mitigation.
The decision was made in an executive session on April 7.
Figure Four Partners is a subsidiary of Perry Homes that owns the 268-acre Woodridge Village residential development, according to reporting by Community Impact Newspaper. The development has been accused of being the reason for flooding in Harris County related to Tropical Storm Imelda in September and another rain storm last May.
In response, there is potential the developers will offer to sell the area the county is interested in for flood mitigation, with a price tag of $10 million.
The commissioners also discussed working with Montgomery County and the city of Houston on future flood management efforts.
"We believe that from some of the stats ... that we can actually impact 1,306 homes, and we could actually take 850 of the 1,306 homes out of the 500-year flood plain," Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle told Community Impact Newspaper.
