City of Rockport issued the following announcement on July 17
The City of Rockport’s Parks Department will close its system of parks and the Community Aquatic Center beginning at 11:59 on July 19. The Tule Hike and Bike Trail will remain open.
The decision to close corresponds with a recent City/County/Navigation District Order that limits vehicular travel at Rockport Beach Park. The Order is through August 1, but may be rescinded or extended depending upon the reported coronavirus conditions in Aransas County.
“Our primary mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors,” noted Rick Martinez, Director of the Parks Department. “We have seen a dramatic increase of positive cases in our area over the past few days and feel this is in the best interest of our community”.
Earlier this year, the parks and pool were initially closed because of Executive Orders from the Governor and then extended due to concerns related to the coronavirus. With the facilities closed to the public, the staff was able to catch up on a backlog of maintenance, as well as address acts of vandalism that occurred during the “Stay at Home” period, that would not have been possible with the parks in use. Improvements made during the first closure include re-striping parking lots, painting the interior of all restroom facilities, repairs of playground structures and irrigation issues. During the second closure staff will once again focus on a list of maintenance and improvement projects.
