Matagorda County schools enrolled 274 students who were identified as being gifted and talented during the 2020-2021 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

This is a 5.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Of the 6,969 students enrolled in Matagorda County schools, 3.9% of them were considered to be gifted and talented.

Matagorda County enrolled the 101st highest number of gifted and talented students among Texas counties.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
