Austin Community College issued the following announcement on Jan. 14

Austin Community College (ACC) invites faculty, staff, students, and the community to a series of events commemorating National Day of Racial Healing on January 21, 2020, and January 24, 2020.

"This is a day we come together to dedicate ourselves to the work of racial healing. This year's theme, 'There's more to me than what you see,' features art and performances that seek to encourage participants to discover the unique aspects of each person and encourage more connection with one another. Building human connections fosters a more equitable and just community," says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC executive vice president of Campus Operations and Public Affairs.

The ACC showcase will be held 12 to 1:30 p.m. at ACC Highland, Building 4000 (6101 Highland Campus Drive) and includes art, dance, music, and spoken word.

In addition to the showcase, the ACC Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center (TRHT) hosts a trio of racial healing circles Friday, January 24.

Racial Healing Circles

Cypress Creek Campus, Room 1108 | 9 a.m. - Noon

South Austin Campus, Room 1130 | 1 - 4 p.m.

Riverside Campus, Building G, Room 9114 | 1 - 4 p.m.

The events are part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation effort — a national, community-based initiative to address historic and contemporary effects of racism. ACC is one of 10 national institutions selected to serve as a TRHT Campus Center.
