Austin Community College issued the following announcement on April 10
Dear Riverbats,
Yesterday, April 9, Austin Community College received an update from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) about federal support for the college and our students. ACC was awarded $13,907,800 through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. This fund was authorized as part of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The first portion of the funds should be available as early as next week. These dollars will help ACC better support our students directly impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The funds will cover “eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and child care.”
We are waiting to learn more from the DOE about specific criteria for student eligibility and timelines for delivery of aid to students as well as the distribution of the remaining federal funds. We will share this information with you as soon as possible.
The college is eager to move forward and put these funds to good use. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and perseverance as we move through this unprecedented time.
Regards,
Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D.
President/CEO
Austin Community College District
