Gov. Greg Abbott has suspended some trucking laws and regulations to speed delivery of electric power poles to communities hit by Hurricane Hanna.

"The State of Texas is working to ensure that recovery efforts in the Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bend are not slowed down by red tape," the governor said in a statement. "This waiver will expedite the delivery of much-needed resources to these communities and will help Texans rebuild."

The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting in the effort, according to the governor.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and President Donald Trump granted the state a Federal Emergency Declaration request for Public Assistance on July 26. It allows the federal government to pay 75 percent for evacuation and shelter support costs.

"We will continue to work with our federal and local partners as we assess the damage from Hurricane Hanna and may seek additional federal assistance as we continue to respond, recover, and rebuild our communities,” the governor said.
