There were 13 African American students enrolled in Woodsboro ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 18.8% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Woodsboro ISD schools welcomed 438 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Woodsboro ISD roughly covers schools within Refugio County and has a main office in Woodsboro.

Among the two schools in Woodsboro ISD schools, Woodsboro High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of eight students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
