Refugio County schools enroll 42 gifted and talented students in the 2022-23 school year

Test 13

Refugio County schools enrolled 42 students who were identified as being gifted and talented during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

This is an 8.7% decrease from the previous school year.

Of the 1,225 students enrolled in Refugio County schools, 3.4% of them were considered to be gifted and talented.

Refugio County enrolled the 51st lowest number of gifted and talented students among Texas counties.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students…dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools…gun violence, and mental health issues,” claimed the Texas Almanac.
