Enrollment at Calhoun County ISD schools decreased by 1.3% compared to previous school year

There were 3,530 students enrolled in Calhoun County ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.8% of them were boys, and 48.2% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 67.7% of the Calhoun County ISD total enrollment.

Calhoun County ISD roughly covers schools within Calhoun County with its main office in Port Lavaca.

Among the seven schools in Calhoun County ISD, Calhoun High School recorded the highest enrollment of 987 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
