Of the 2,968 students attending Aransas County schools, 47.8% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 44.8% of the total enrollment.
In the previous school year, white students also made up the largest ethnic group in Aransas County, comprising 48.8% of the student body.
Fulton Learning Center had the most even distribution of races among the schools in the county, which included 49.3% Hispanic students, 42.7% white students, 3.7% multiracial students, 2.3% Black students, 1.5% Asian students, 0.3% Pacific Islander students, and 0.2% American Indian students.
When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 2.5%.
“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
