Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Bee County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 5,165 students attending Bee County schools, 78.5% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 16% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Bee County, comprising 79.3% of the student body.

Pawnee Elementary / Junior High School had the most even distribution of races among the schools in the county, which included 59.8% Hispanic students, 20.8% Black students, 16.3% white students, 2.4% multiracial students, 0.5% Asian students, and 0.2% American Indian students.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county increased by 1.4%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
